    3. Hillary changed her last name to Clinton and lost her maiden name, dyed her hair, lost her glasses, and started dressing less like herself after Bill loses the election for the governor. Hillary did this because she knew that she was part, if not the main reason, her husband lost the election. She didn’t fit the normal image of a governor’s wife in Arkansas, and she knew that. However, during the 2 years of her husband being the governor, she kept being herself and didn’t conform to what everyone else wanted her to be. She became skilled in politics, and allowed her husband to rely on her during his political campaign. She realized that keeping her maiden name wasn’t enough reason to keep her husband from being successful in politics, and she made the very tough decision to change herself, for the benefit of her husband. She became the ideal image of a wife.

    8) Clinton refused to believe that what her husband was accused of doing was untrue. Bill Clinton had denied all of the allegations, and she believed it. She stood beside her husband after the affair, and most people felt like she had no other choice. She also believed that this was not personal, that it was political. She became almost the last person to actually truly believe that Bill did not have an affair. However, she was watching her husband’s presidency fall apart right in front of her eyes. When Bill came out with the truth, he made a fool of Hillary, who the American people thought of as an intelligent, perceptive woman. That was a very hard time for Hillary, and that pain after finding out her husband lied to her and America about the affair, still causes her pain today. I feel if I were in that situation I have no idea how I would’ve handled myself. I feel like I would’ve not believed him the entire way through, unlike Hillary, however, I feel like I could’ve also stood by him, because had I not, my entire life would’ve fallen apart. She forgave her husband, and managed her husband in the impeachment trial. I’m not sure if I would have the personal strength to do that, and I’m not sure if I would even want to forgive my husband if I found out about him having an affair.

    11. Clinton was not ready for Barack Obama. Obama was just as cocky as her husband, had a certain “magic” to him, and she was not prepared to be opposed by such an intelligent and qualified man such as Barack Obama. She was not as young as Obama, and she would tell Obama that it was not as easy as he “thought” it would be. To America, Hillary started to sound like the voice of caution, and that made people not particularly want to vote for her. She thus pledged her support to Obama, and accepted his presidency.

    4. In 1988, when Trump first flirted with presidential politics, it was the ground of his ideas regarding politics. He was upset about how the other countries were taking advantage of us, and taking advantage of us in trade deals. He was formulating all of his current views in 1988, and he holds some of them now during his candidacy. He also never admits when he’s wrong for his comments about the Central Park 5, and it’s clear that he still does that to this day.

    9. Donald Trump after failing as a real-estate tycoon, realized that his name meant something. He was considered as a celebrity, so he could sell his name and live off of that forever. He starred in commercials, and created his image. He created a reality TV show, The Apprentice, that would make him famous in a political standpoint. He created himself into a household name, and his name was now his brand. In this show, Trump was the leader.

    12. Trump wants to sensationalize the personal history in an insensitive way. He was speaking to the people, specifically the racists, who were against the fact that we have an African American president. Trump understands that there are a majority of people in the Republican party who indeed are racists, and doubt his origins and if he was actually eligible to become the president. Obama thus released his birth certificate, proving that he was born in Hawaii, and everyone expected that Donald Trump was going to go into the background, however, that clearly did not happen.

What happened to Trump’s Taj Mahal?  Why?  How was this a sign of Trump’s other investments success/failure?
The Taj Mahal represents everything Trump did wrong. He spent 1 billion on the Taj from the 1250 rooms, the casino that was the size of two football fields, and the 14 million in Chandiliers. It was predicted that the market not there, and it was true. There wasnt enough to cover interest expenses on debt. Also other than being burdened by debt, there was no profit. Aside from that, the Plaza hotel was a financial disaster and the Trump Shuttle Airlines was bleeding money. During this time the US was in a recession. People didn’t have time or the money to go to luxury resorts. Trump didn’t plan well and thats why he suffered.

How does Hillary alter her image after Bill loses re-election for the governor’s spot in Arkansas? Why does she do this?
She knew that she was part of the reason Bill didn’t get re-elected. She didn’t fit the image of southern wife in politics. Some reasons are that she fought for women’s rights, dressed and did her hair differently, and she studied law. After he wasn’t re-elected, Hillary took charge of Bills campaign and kind of became his “campaign manager”. She rebranded herself and became Mrs. Clinton. Even though it was difficult, she felt that keeping her last name wasn’t worth the expense of everything that she and Bill wanted to achieve. She also got rid of her glasses, dyed her hair, lost some weight, stopped being as vocal, and began to wear more modest clothes.

How does Clinton handle her husband’s affair and impeachment?  How would you have handled a similar event?  Why?
Hillary avoided speaking publicly about the affairs. The candidacy wasn’t going well and Bill & Clinton knew that the only way to win is if Hillary spoke about the affairs. There was an interview where she said that she was going to stay by his side and protect him. She’s kept the issue professional instead of personal. It worked, and the candidacy made a come back. Later on when the accusation came out regarding Monica Lewinsky, still, Hillary continued to fight against it. Once the news came out, she held it together. Though she was clearly furious, she made sure to keep together for the media. Somehow, she managed to somewhat forgive him. Personally, I think one of the worst things someone can do is cheat. I would leave, I hope I’m never in that situation, but sadly if I am, I would leave him. Everyones worthy of love and if theres someone in your life that doesn’t see your worth, then they’re not worthy of your time.

How does Trump’s first flirtation with presidential politics in 1988 echo his current campaign?
We see his views in 1988 show in the current presidential election. Most of his views haven’t changed. In ’88 he thought had NATO was making us do all the work and that other countries should pay for themselves. He also said that the US makes really bad and unfair trade deals. In ’88 we also see how he lashes out, similar to today. For example he learned about the story of the boys allegedly raping and almost beating to death this white woman. He called them animals that deserved the death penalty. This attack on minorityes shows his agression. When news came out after all those years that they found the real rapists, he never apologized. This is another example of how whenever he’s wrong, he refuses to admit to it.

How did Trump and Clinton (Rodham) early years – pre college – shape who they are?
    1. Donald was raised in luxury. He grew up in a mansion with a hard working father. His father worked seven days a week, and he made sure the his children learned the family business. Two views that shaped Trump was his fathers idea that there are superior and inferior people. He believed that when two superior people came together there was another superior made. He also believed that life was a competition; there were winners and loser, and the losers meant nothing. Throughout his childhood Donald was a troublemaker. He was the kid that knocked over the blocks, and his father saw this. He was sent to the New York Military Academy. This was a disciplinary school that was very hard. Suprisingly, a man who came from luxury, Donald thrived. He liked that there was a metal and prize for everything. People today even say that he hasn’t changed as the “Playboy” since highschool. Donald also grew up listening his Pastor preach the gospel of success. His pastor believed that not only is success good, but that you should thrive to succeed. His childood and being surrounded by people like his father who have such strong morals, they gave him many characteristics he still holds today. He, like his father, enjoys competition and wants to be at the top.

    2. Hillary grew up in a very unhappy household. She was born in Chicago but then later on moved to New York. Her father was a fierce conservative who was never happy with Hillary. She would come home with all As, and he would say that the school was easy. He was never proud of her and her achievements. Her father was dismissive as well as verbally dismissive. Her mother Dorothy was raised in a home with out any affection or love; Dorothy was determined to give Hillary a better life. Hillary’s house consisted of a lot of fighting, she would run to her room and just hide. This is the beginning of her secrecy and privacy that goes on through out her life. In school everyone saw her ambition but as a woman, she could only reach so high. Another point to make is that she was very involved with her church. Their new preacher Don Jon was young and had more modern ideals/morals. He was a very controversial topic for the adults. He took them to see Martin Luther King Jr. speaking. This helped sway Hillary’s views. Hillary had a hard childhood, so she can understand many Americans today. I think she took her hardships and used them to help propel her campaign (and decisions).

    5. Hillary altered her appearance by dying her hair, straightening it, she got rid of her glasses, and begun to dress better in the public’s opinion. She did her makeup, lost weight, used a drawl in her voice, and even stopped speaking up as much as she did before. Hillary also adopted Bill’s last name and became Mrs.Clinton. She changed every aspect of her physical being so that she knew that would not interfere with Bill’s political chances. Another major reason why she did this was because she knew that she was part of the reason why Bill didn’t get re elected as governor of Arkansas. It was because of the way she was and that she had not taken Bill’s last name.

    8. Clinton had first attempted to avoid speaking publicly about Bill’s affair with Gennifer Flowers. She didn’t want to open the door to possibility of having a conversation about the affair until Bill and Hillary made their 60 Minutes appearance. On the show she stated that the reason she stayed by is his side was because she loved, respected, and honored who he was. She protected Bill whenever he was attacked on the show and the appearance worked in their favor by helping Bill get elected as president. Hillary questioned Bill over and over again about his affair with Monica Lewinsky but he denied any improper behavior. Hillary wanted to believe that Bill was telling the truth and did believe that. Finally decided to talk publicly about the affair by making an appearance on the Today Show. On the show she defended her husband against all of the allegations, and fought back by calling the affair as a vast right wing conspiracy. That saying made the affair seem political not personal. She became the last person standing to believe that there was nothing going on between Monica and Bill. When Bill came forward with the truth he made a fool of both of them. Hillary rescued Bill again from his impeachment when she started to managing Bill’s trial. While Bill was addressing the public after being acquitted, Hillary was questioning if she should run for Senate. She decided to use her own voice for what she wanted in life. I would hope I could handle a similar situation as well as Hillary had done because no matter what the scandal was she ended up the winner with only little of the shame of what had been thrown at her.

    11. Hillary was ill prepared to win the 2008 presidential election versus Obama because she was not anticipating the competition of him. Clinton was completely blindsided by the young, cocky, smart man. In 2008, the public wanted again a young and hopeful voice to lead the countries as the Clinton’s had once done. By now the public thought that Hillary was the voice of causation of the vision of the old America. At the end, Clinton’s experience was not a strength against Obama and eventually agreed to endorse him.

    Trump

    6. Donald purchased the Taj Mahal at one billion dollars, making it the biggest deal of his lifetime. However, since Donald made the purchase of the casino, in the middle of the recession in America most people were not going to Atlantic City to gamble, therefore along with being burdened by the debt of the huge deal, the casino also did not pull in a steady revenue stream. This was a sign of Trump’s other investments successes and failures because it highlighted the major point that Trump simply did not understand everything that went into creating something that could withhold the test of time. The Taj Mahal showed that Trump did not understand the economic or accounting ramifications that his failure amounted to. Trump’s other businesses including the Plaza hotel, which became a financial disaster, the Airline Trump Shuttle was simply bleeding money. With these losses, Trump blamed those around him because he was not used or liked losing. The Trump Tower was an example everything right that Trump had done and the Taj Mahal was an example of everything wrong he had done.

    7. Trump used Wall Street to sell shares of his casino and to alleviate his debt he had accumulated. Trump then sold his name for a fee to bring his name out of the gutter, by companies putting his name around the world. He used his celebrity to advertise and sell a long list of products. He became a punchline and The Apprentice turned all the jokes on their heads. The show made Trump seem like a credible business person even though in reality he was not, with his business failures that had followed him starting from the 80s. Trump connected with the public because they wanted to be like the person Trump portrayed on TV.

    12. According to film, Donald’s motive behind the search for Obama’s birth certificate goes back to the same reason Joseph McCarthy used Mccarthyism. That meaning that Trump used a campaign that endorses the use of unfair allegations and investigations. Also Trump used the fact that you can sensational someone’s personal information in an attempt to turn the public against them. This worked because Trump was appealing to those who were uncomfortable with a black president. Trump was practicing what Roy Cohn had taught him about the art of ruining someone’s life.

  4. Danielle Lutz

    2. Trump has always seen the world as a place where he is on top. He is meant for the spotlight and thrives in it. After succeeding with Trump tower he believed he was a winner and this boosted his ego even more. Donald has a resentment for the elite because his ways of living were not accepted by those people. He got what he wanted because he fought for it and they didn’t feel that was the way things should be. His entire career was about him leading from the top and those two statements describe how he saw the world and treated his career.

    3. Hillary took the loss very hard. She knew that this was partially her fault because she wasn’t the typical politician’s wife Arkansas was looking for. She decided to take her husband’s political career into her hands moving forward. She changed her last name to Clinton and became Bill’s campaign manager. She for fitted her own identity. She got rid of her big glasses, fixed her hair, started dressing better, and wore makeup. To drive her husband’s career, Hillary needed to change completely, and this hurt everyone because she wasn’t sticking to the person she really was.

    8. Hillary never wanted to know everything about Bill’s career. She avoided speaking about it publicly but in order for Bill to win, she needed to talk about it publicly, which she did with Bill in front of the whole world. Hillary showed that she stayed by him to protect him and because she loved him. I would have handled the situation differently, but not gotten the same, obviously effective, reaction from the United States.

    4. In 1988, Trump was never really serious about running for president. He was on a social up bringing and thought about the publicity he would get. The views he was trying to get across were that America deserves better and that we were getting ripped off by our “allies.” His views back then echo the points he is trying to get across today. The person he is, loves publicity and fame. Trump now gets lots of publicity and when running for president it was not about helping the country, it was about coming into power and getting the public’s eyes on him, just like it was back in 1988.

    5. Hillary was the first first lady to have an official office in the west wing. She was considered a political asset to accomplish the president’s agenda. Hillary kept her health care plan a secret but once it was revealed it was under fire. She was getting the most attention America had ever seen for a first lady. The fire became personal soon. The press started a political battle and Hillary felt she was going to war. She felt she needed to get out of Washington, so she did. The Clinton’s went campaigning for her health care plan talking straight to the American people. Hillary got spit on during her campaigning and soon the health care plan died. White men around America hated the idea of a women being more powerful than her husband. She became the bait in the west wing for someone to point their fingers at whenever Bill’s popularity went down. As the affair Bill Clinton had with Monica Lewinsky settles him into his impeachment trial, Hillary still stands by Bill’s side. Not only does she find it in herself to forgive him, but she manages his defense in the trial. On the day he was acquitted, he addressed the press, without Hillary by his side.

    6. Trump towers represents everything Trump did right, Taj Mahal represents everything trump did wrong. Trump spent more than a billion dollars on the Taj and he was in extreme debt. Roffman said that Trump’s money invested in Taj was a big mistake and the business wasn’t there. Trump then tried to sue. Everything Trump invested him started on a recession and he began to blame the people around him for what went wrong with his investments. Trump was shocked, beginning to look like a loser, and it was the hardest part of his life.

    Hilary

    3. Hilary knew that she was part of the reason Bill didn’t get re-elected, this caused her to recreate her image. Hilary did not fit the image of southern wife in politics. Some of reasons that she didn’t fit the image are that she dressed and did her hair differently, fought for women’s rights, and had studied law. After Bill wasn’t re-elected, Hillary took charge of Bills campaign and in a sense became his “campaign manager”. She rebranded herself and became Mrs. Clinton. She realized that keeping her maiden name wasn’t enough reason to keep her husband from being successful in politics, and she made the very tough decision to change herself, for the benefit of her husband. She became the ideal image of a wife. She also got rid of her glasses, dyed her hair, lost weight, stopped being as vocal, and began to wear more conservative clothes.

    5. Clinton was the first First Lady to have an official office in the west wing of the White House. She was thought of as a political asset, unlike past first ladies. Hillary kept her health care plan a secret but once it was revealed it was ridiculed. She was getting more attention than a First Lady had ever gotten. The media started a political battle. Hillary felt she was fighting a war. She felt like she needed to escape the constant stress of Washington. The Clinton’s went straight to the American people to campaign for their health care plan. Hillary got destroyed during her campaign and soon the health care plan was thrown out. White men around America hated the idea of a women being more powerful than her husband. She became the bait in the west wing for someone to point their fingers at whenever her husbands popularity went down.

    8. Hillary tried to avoid publicly speaking about the affairs. The Clintons knew that the only way to win was if Hillary spoke publicly about the affairs. In an interview, Hilary said that she was going to stick by his side and protect him. Though she was clearly furious, she made sure to keep together for the media. She somehow managed to keep the issue professional instead of personal. I personally, would’ve been unable to do this. This strategy worked, and the candidacy made a huge come back. Somehow, she managed to somewhat forgive him. I believe that lying in general is awful. Lying to me is almost unforgivable depending on the circumstance and how big the lie is. If I were in that situation I would’ve left immediately, I have zero time for liars, especially cheaters.

    Trump

    6. Trump purchased the Taj Mahal at one billion dollars, making it the biggest deal of his lifetime. However, since Trump made the purchase of the casino, in the middle of the recession in America most people were not going to gamble. The Taj Mahal showed that Trump did not understand the economic or accounting ramifications that his failure amounted to. Trump’s other businesses including the Plaza hotel, which became a financial disaster, the Airline Trump Shuttle was simply bleeding money. With these losses, Trump blamed those around him because he was not used to losing. The Trump Tower was an example everything right that Trump had done and the Taj Mahal was an example of everything wrong he had done.

    4. In 1988, when Trump first flirted with presidential politics, it was the start of his ideas regarding politics. He was angry about how other countries were taking advantage of us in trade deals. He was formulating all of his current views in 1988, and those ideas have translated to his candidacy now. He also doesn’t admit when he’s wrong for his comments about the Central Park 5. He still does that to this day.

    9. Donald Trump after failing as a real-estate tycoon, realized that his name meant something. He was considered a celebrity, so he could sell his name and live off of that forever. He starred in commercials, and created his image. He created a reality TV show, The Apprentice, which would make him famous from a political standpoint. He created himself into a household name, and his name was now his brand. In this show, Trump was the leader.

  6. Ian Rosenwasser

    Hillary

    3. Hillary completely changes image when Bill loses the re-election for governor in Arkansas. Before the re-election, Hillary was consistently involved with Bill, and she helped him with his political career. She also was well educated, studied law, and fought for women’s rights. Hillary was viewed as “different” by the people of Arkansas, and she thought that was the reason that Bill didn’t get re-elected. When Bill loses the election Hillary goes from being affiliated as a political partner to Bill, to becoming the stereotypical governor’s wife. She starts wearing makeup to look good for the media, and becomes Bill’s campaign manager. She also changes her name from Hillary Rodham to Hillary Clinton to fit the societal norm that a wife takes the husbands last name.

    8. When Bill is first accused of having an affair with an intern, he waved off the threat, and told the media that the accusation was false. He also told Hillary not to worry about the situation because he didn’t have an affair, and he explained that he was faithful to her. Hillary stood by Bill during the allegations of his affair, and continued to do whatever it took to have him re-elected. She explained that the affair was made up by the republicans to try and hurt Bill’s political career. Hillary’s statement created the affair into a political issue, rather than a personal issue for the Clintons. Hillary believed Bill, and they went on with their lives until Bill released a shocking video. In the video he explained that he did indeed have an affair with the intern, and that he was deeply sorry to everyone he lied to. Hillary was embarrassed by her husband’s video because she had trusted him that he didn’t have an affair, but Bill was lying to her the whole time. Hillary didn’t talk or accompany Bill for awhile after the truth was told. Eventually, she regained trust in Bill, and the 2 resumed their political careers. Hillary handles her husband’s affair and impeachment by putting it behind her, and regaining her trust for Bill. I would not have been able to trust Bill again, and probably would have divorced him if I was in Hillary’s position.

    11. When Obama beat Hillary for the 2008 democratic nominee, she was ill-prepared to go against him. First, Hillary wasn’t expecting an energetic and young opponent, and she was caught off guard by Obama. Hillary used a cautious and negative approach to the election, while Obama ecstatically displayed his ideas that would benefit America. The people didn’t support Hillary telling Obama that becoming a politician was harder than it looked, and that she knew from experience. Obama eventually became the democratic nominee, and Hillary pledged her support towards him.

    Trump

    2. Trump’s philosophy that repeating something enough times will get people to believe what you’re saying is used throughout his entire career. His motivation for the truthful hyperbole can be found during his childhood. His dad would constantly explain that there were winners and losers in the world, and the winners were the people who succeeded. This idea has now become a part of Trump, and it lead him to be an extremely competitive person. The preacher that Trump always went to listen to also constantly repeated the idea of success. Trump was influenced by the consistent teachings of his role models to follow, and repeat these ideals. An example of a truthful hyperbole in Trump’s career is his desire to build a wall between the US and Mexico. At first when Trump explained the idea most people thought he was crazy, but his constant repetition of the idea has lead millions of people to support him.

    9. Trump began his career in real estate, and became very successful in the field. He owned many popular hotels, casinos, and buildings, leading him to become a billionaire. After the failure of his most expensive investment, the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, Trump needed a way to increase his finances. Trump realized his increasing fame, and decided to sell his name to other businesses. He was endorsed by famous companies, and appeared in many commercials. The apprentice cemented his new reputation because he was portrayed as a leader, and looked like the president. The apprentice created an appealing image of Trump, and increased his popularity around the world. When Trump realized his fame and financial success he decided that the only way to get better was to run for president.

    12. Trump’s motivation for searching for Obama’s birth certificate was to ruin Obama’s presidency, and to appeal to racist conservatives. Trump wanted to prove Obama wasn’t born in the US to become famous for uncovering a mystery. He went on TV and stated that he didn’t believe that Obama was born in America because he never was asked to show his birth certificate. Trump also wanted to gain the support who were hesitant to have the first black president. Obama eventually responded to allegations against him by releasing a birth certificate that displayed that he was born in Hawaii. Most people believed that this situation would end Trump’s political career, but he returned to politics soon after.

    3.)
After Bill Clinton loses the re election of governor in Arkansas, Hilary points the finger at herself. She believes that she doesn’t fit the image of a wife that many of the voters are looking for. So, she decides to make some changes to help her husband. First off, she drops her maiden name which she originally didn’t do and becomes Hilary Clinton. She also colored her hair, lost weight, stopped wearing glasses, and wore clothing that matched social trends. Hilary also studied politics which was odd for a woman to do, but eventually It helped her run for office in this past election. The hardest rebranding part for Hilary was changing her last name, but she figured in the long run it would help them both.

    4)
In 1988, Trump flirted with politics a little and we can see that many of his views haven’t changed even through today. Trump mention how the US was awful at making deals, especially those regarding trades. He portrayed the country as weak in the way he talked, saying that we were always losing trades. This is still something he does today which is evident in his slogan itself. “Make America Great Again” can refer to making better deals and strengthening this country. He also called a group of minorities animals for raping a white woman. Later evidence proved it wasn’t even them and he never apologized or even refuted his statement. This is something we still see in Trump today, attacking minorities and never admitting he’s wrong himself.

    5.)
Hilary kept her health care plan a secret while she was working on it. She changed up the peoples’ views on first ladies by proposing this health care plan and actually having her own office in the white house. However, people weren’t necessarily ready for this as her plan got slashed up pretty badly. Regardless of what people said, Clinton did receive the most attention than any other first lady and for the first time, the first lady was significant. Conservatives weren’t fans of this because they didn’t like that the First Lady was proposing ideas and not the (male) president. When Bill Clinton was under the impeachment process, many people even looked to Hilary to see what her reactions would be. Hilary stayed by Bill’s side the whole time and eventually the two of them left office.

    6.)
Trump’s Taj Mahal was one of the biggest business failures in history. It only lasted one year before it filed for bankruptcy. Trump pumped 1 billion dollars into this casino hotel even though he was warned that the market didn’t really exist at the time. Regardless, he installed millions of dollars of simple things like chandeliers to give his resort an exclusive feel. However, the country was going through the early 90’s recession and people didn’t have money to spend. Furthermore, Trump was in a massive debt when he purchased the casino, and because he couldn’t find many guests to check in, it only got worse. This was an example of everything Trump did wrong. Two more examples of Trump’s mistakes include the Plaza hotel and Trump shuttle airlines because they were losing money by the millions. One example of Trump doing something right was Trump tower as it was a good investment and is still around today and he makes billions of dollars from it.

    8.)
Hilary generally avoided speaking in public about the Bill Clinton affair. However, they knew she had to especially with her role as First Lady become more and more important. She was interviewed several times and she always said that she’ll stay by his side and support him. She also believed Bill at first when he said he didn’t ever do it. Eventually, a shocking video was released proving that Bill did in fact have an affair. Hilary was understandably shocked, but she didn’t show it on camera or even publicly, other than disappearing for a short period of time. Eventually she forgave him and they continued their political careers and lives together. Personally, if I were Hilary, I would’ve left Bill. There’s never any acceptable reason to cheat on someone because it obviously shows you don’t love them and I could never be satisfied knowing I’m still married to that person.

    9)
Donald Trump failed as a real estate tycoon. However, he soon discovered that his name could be “sold.” He was considered somewhat of a celebrity, so he could slap his name on anything and sell it. He was in several commercials for different companies. Also, more recently, he started creating tons of products including Trump meat, Trump wine, and Trump water. Before that, he starred in his own show The Apprentice which cemented in his new reputation by giving him an aggressive, full of himself, show to star in. His line in the show was “You’re fired” which gave him an edge. All of this contributed to his rebranding from a real estate tycoon to simply selling Trump.

    Hillary Clinton

    3) How does Hillary alter her image after Bill loses re-election for the governor’s spot in Arkansas? Why does she do this?

After Bill Clinton lost his re-election for governor in Arkansas, Hillary choose to alter her image because his loss was largely due to her unpopularity. Hillary was seen by the public as “overly ambitious” and she did not resemble the typical, southern housewife. Hillary chose to revamp her image by dyeing her hair, losing some weight, getting rid of her glasses, dressing more stereotypically, and most importantly; changing her last name. Hillary had always gone by Hillary Rodham (which is her maiden name), but the day Bill announced he was going to attempt to retake the governor position, she announced she would therefore go by Hillary Rodham Clinton. This helped signify that the two were truly bound with one another and they were in the election together. These were all tough choices for Hillary because she always prided herself on her strong, independent image. However, she decided they were necessary to further her and Bill’s political careers. Although Hillary changed her physical image to appeal to the public eye, she did not change her professional ambitions. Hillary continued to speak her mind, keep her profession, and be a powerful, woman figure. Although Hillary was still herself, changing her image was enough to gain her some popularity from many southerners.

    5) How did Clinton change the way first ladies are seen from 1993-2001? Include her health care plan and her husband’s impeachment.

The First Lady has no official duty in the government . However, they have always been known as the hostesses and decorators of the White House, they would assist in cooking and gardening, and they would be expected to help by giving personal advice to the president. Hillary somewhat broke the chain of typical First Ladies. Hillary was very informed politically, was a very empowered women, and she had many of her own ideas on policies and domestic or foreign affairs. During Bill Clinton’s campaign, Hillary made it clear that she was there to help and work, and that she wouldn’t give up her professional ambitions by saying, “I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas, but what I decided to do was to fulfill my profession which I entered before my husband was in public life.” This was a very unpopular statement to many housewives, but it did show Hillary’s independence. Hillary was the first, First Lady to be given her own office in the White House and she even had her own policy on Health Care. Hillary tried to keep her Health Care plan a secret, but it was released and was unpopular among many Americans. The main issue many people had problems with was a woman having power over a man. However people were fascinated that Hillary was releasing ideas of her own. Once Bill Clinton was forced to go under an Impeachment trial, Hillary stood by his side the whole time and showed that no matter what happened, they were still working together.

    8) How does Clinton handle her husband’s affair and impeachment? How would you have handled a similar event? Why?

Clinton handles her husband’s affair and impeachment very respectively and professionally. She tried to avoid discussing Bill’s affair with Monica Lewinsky, however Hillary and Bill both recognized that the campaign/candidacy was not going well. In an interview, Hillary stated that she would stay by Bill’s side no matter the accusations. Hillary kept her word, and despite he obvious anger, stood by his side through the affair scandal and his impeachment. She claims and tries to visually show that she has forgiven him, but I believe that was all for the media and for the success of the campaign. They claim to be still bound by marriage, but I truly think it is purely a political marriage and they are nothing but partners who work together. I would not have reacted well in this situation. Hillary did nothing but help Bill in his campaign and presidency, and he completely broke her trust. I believe she was incredibly generous (and professionally motivated) to stay by his side. If this ever occurred to me I would not have stayed by their side, I would leave because I don’t think that the trust could ever heal.

    13) How did Clinton’s role as Secretary of State for Obama shape her present (Benghazi, separate email server)?

Clinton serving as Secretary of State should have immensely assisted her in her campaign. It would show that she has plenty of political experience and I truly think she did a fine job. She obviously made some mistakes, but I believe they’re completely blown out of proportion by anti-Hillary people. The sending of government emails on a separate email server was a mistake that should have never occurred, however it did not create a threat to our national security like Republicans claim. Hillary did serve as Secretary of State when the Benghazi attacks killing Americans in an embassy occurred, but I don’t think it should reflect badly on her career. I don’t think she could have stopped the attacks or handled the situation better. All in all, Hillary serving as Secretary of State should give her an advantage, but Trump and his supporters used it as a way to hurt her campaign.

    Donald Trump

    2) “Donald is a believer in that if you repeat something enough, people will start to believe it.” How does this statement and “truthful hyperbole” describe Trump’s career?

Donald Trump has used the idea that if you repeat something enough, people will start to believe it many times throughout his business and political career. As a child, the affect was used on him when his father would consistently tell him that there are winners and losers in the world, and to be a winner you have to be successful. Trump took this to heart and now basically lives by this. He is extremely competitive and feels the need to win (if I lose it’s rigged, I won’t accept loss, etc.). Throughout his business career his businesses have gone bankrupt on multiple occasions . However, he is always publicly saying how well his businesses are doing, how successful he is, and what a great business man he is. He has said this enough that people believe he is one of the greatest business men in the nation. In his campaign we see him use this tactic with immigration and race. He has stated multiple times that illegal immigration is a huge problem, people of different races are bad in different ways, we can’t accept refugees, and we need to build a wall along the Mexican border. Trump had made these confident claims so many times that, truthful or not, people have begun to believe and support these ideas.

    6) What happened to Trump’s Taj Mahal? Why? How was this a sign of Trump’s other investments success/failure?

Donald Trump’s Taj Mahal was one of, if not the, greatest failures of his career. He spent one billion dollars on the luxury casino and hotel in Atlantic City, even though he was warned that the time was not right. The United States economic situation was not stable enough for people to be pouring money into a luxury of such. Trump shook off the predictions and decided to spend the obnoxious amount on the casino and hotel. After only about a year, the Taj Mahal filed for bankruptcy and failed miserably. It was a money trap that brought Trump zero profit. This may be one of his most prominent failures, however, Trump has had to file for bankruptcy multiple times with his many failed businesses, casinos, etc. This, as well as his many other failures, shows that Trump may not be the genius business man that many know him as.

    9) How did Trump change from a real-estate tycoon to a brand name manager? How did The Apprentice cement this new reputation?

Trump’s business career was kickstarted long before he was recognized as any sort of politician, when he received “a small loan of a million dollars” from his father. For years Donald Trump was known as the real-estate tycoon, who owned multiple casinos, hotels, and office buildings (Trump Tower). After some of these companies started to go under, like The Taj Mahal, Trump realized that if he was going to keep his billionaire status, he was going to need a boost in a new line of work. He also realized how well known his name was and he decided to “sell” , or brand, his name to different buildings. That’s right, many of the Trump buildings you see are not really Trump’s at all. Trump also began appearing in commercials and on other television programs, and soon Trump was practically a commonly used household name. The Apprentice, cemented his new reputation by legitimizing him. He was no longer just a name, spokesperson, or even business man… he was now a leader. The show made him appear to be a powerful leader, full of great business traits. All of this led to people believing Trump could now be a legitimate and even good contender to the our next president.

  9. Jay Stansberry

    Clinton
    3. Hillary changes her image significantly after Bill lost re-election for governor. Before, she was kind of an oddball woman in the South. After the loss, she felt it was in part because of her being so different in the South. She changed her last name to Clinton, dyed her hair and got rid of those weird big glasses and started to dress better to be more accepted in the South. As well as this, she became more involved in Bill’s political career. In a way she became his campaign manager and toughened up and turned to the darker side of politics. She would do anything to win. The end justified the means for her and many of these characteristics have stayed with her from that point on.

    8. Hillary handles her husband’s affair extremely well. She stays faithful to Bill and tries to help him get through it and still win the election. She never really comes out about Bill’s affair, but stay by him. She finally though comes out on national TV to talk about it because she realized that she needed to put the issue to rest to get past this issue to win the election. Where she is able to protect her husband from this scandal derailing his presidential run, I wouldn’t have been able to. Still being able to support your partner after they have an affair would be very difficult for me to still stay together, much less support him becoming president.

    5. Hillary changed the way that first ladies were seen. She made it seem that the first lady had more power than they had previously. This had started when she was appointed to a health care task force by her husband. Begging with her extremely long health care plan, she was heavily criticized. Not just for this, but of other involvement such as her firing some people in the government. She campaigned for her health plan, but it failed to pass. She began to feel that she couldn’t be liked no matter where she was, D.C. or Arkansas. She felt that white men couldn’t accept her differences such as not being a housewife and one that was heavily involvement in politics.

    Trump
    2. The statement that if you say something enough, people will believe it describes his career. He used this to help make more money throughout his career. For example, he called his 58 story Trump Tower a 60 story building with the knowledge that the higher the floor, the more expensive the room. He got away with this lie by repeating it. This seems to have carried on to today as he can be seen repeating many things like “China” throughout his campaign.

    4. Trump had a very similar campaign to the one that he ran this year. He called for strength and competence at the top of our government. He also stated that the United States were being ripped off, more specifically by NATO and Japan. He stated that we were in terrible trade agreements. These views are similar to what he has said today. In his campaign this year, one of his biggest issues has been trade issues and how we are getting ripped off. He has also said that the United States has been weak under Obama, similar for calling for more strength from us. Another similarity is that the media didn’t really take his candidacy seriously in either election. In ’88 though people were not sure if Trump was seriously running while in this year’s election Trump was serious despite early on people doubting him. We can also see similarities in controversial statements. In 1988, a woman was raped jogging in central park by allegedly young minority boys. He hated these people and stated this and said that they should be killed. When it was proven that they were innocent, he didn’t apologize. This could relate to his “racist” comments from this year’s election. Weather these statements were actually racist, we don’t know, but some people viewed it as such.

    6. The Taj Mahal Casino didn’t turn a profit, like many economists predicted. Because of being in a recession, people were no going to Atlantic City, thus not going to the Taj Mahal. The fact that it was a really expensive building with a lot of expensive furnishings and the building being huge, he couldn’t pay off the debt for the building. This was a sign of the end of his major business successes and the start of his failures. This would also bring to light how his other companies were failing. For the most part they stayed away from the spotlight, but this major fail at the Taj Mahal made people wonder about how poorly some of his other businesses were doing. Trump was no longer the big winner, but had some losing. At this time, the Trump airline and yachts were struggling and would go out of business as well. Trump was able to stay in business though when investors thought that his property would be more valuable with his name on them.

  10. Rachel Stansberry

    Trump

    1. Donald Trump was a kid who had always grew up with some sort of luxury/posh. He had lived in a huge house in Queens, letting him only know comfort. Like he’s said “when I was a young boy, my father gave me a small loan of one million dollars.” He always lived a little bit more of a spoiled life, thinking he was more superior to others. His family believed that there were superior people, and they saw that they were. They taught them that loser were nothing, and to always win (this made Trump obsessed with winning because he took this lesson by heart). He would always hate it when people would criticize or make fun of him, which is why he now does it to the majority of other people. He was also a kid who was more of a troublemaker, always goofing around and breaking rules. This caused him to be sent away to a military academy and shape up. This shows his attitude and opinions he talks about today. Trump’s father was also a major about the family business as well. He thrived for his children to learn it, and work in general. He would take them to sites on the weekend and make them work. This taught Trump more of work and business. People do say that Trump hasn’t changed at all.

    6. Trump’s Taj Mahal was a huge business mistake in history. Trump had put several investments in things like casinos and hotels, it didn’t seem like he’d stop. He used this to spread his name across the nation and he loved this publicity. Really this harmed him a lot making him bankrupt as not many would be gambling, or using his shuttles, or going to his hotels. The Taj didn’t make profit, showing how terrible Trump’s business condition was. This was one of his loses, so it did hurt hard for him as he normally “won.” Of course he didn’t except the lose, and blamed others and the nation.

    12. Trump’s career had already been looked at strange or upsetting because of the apprentice so Trump focused on Obama’s birth certificate to try and make new headlines. Trump observed Obama’s unknown birth-location and saw if he wasn’t born in the U.S. then it would be one of the biggest scams. He had also seen it as “we all have to show it, but why does he have to?” He gets to the fact that you can go into someone’s personal history in a brutal and insensitive way. He also discusses this to get the republicans attention or in general, people who are unsure about an African-American president. His poll numbers had risen due to this problem.

    Hillary

    2. Hillary lived in Chicago, in a white, American suburb. Hillary’s father was, Hue, was conservative and demanding. Hue and Hillary’s relationship was not the best. Hue would give her no credit like for school. Hillary would work hard and make straight A’s, but her father would complain and say that the school is too easy. Fighting like this and worse was a common thing for her family (with her father and mother). This started making her privacy begin, and show throughout her time with politics. Her parents never gave her affection and didn’t treat her like how normal parents treated their children. Hillary’s ambition did show through her young age though.

    3. She re-branded herself and finally called herself Mrs. Clinton instead of keeping her other last name. It showed that she cared and symbolic by sacrificing her identity. She did this knowing it wasn’t worth keeping her name considering the things her and her husband wanted to achieve and do together. She also started changing her hair (like got it dyed), lose weight, lose glasses, wore make up and started dressing modestly better. It hurt the people who knew her, seeing that she was changing who she was. She had helped get her husband in the spot light by consulting with some people of politics. She had also became his campaign member, and helped him throughout.

    11. Clinton was not prepared/ready to win the 2008 presidential election vs. Obama. She was afraid to go against this man as he was cocky, intelligent, and somewhat reminded her of her husband. She wasn’t as sure what to say in campaigns and her voice wasn’t as young and cautious as the 2008’s society would prefer. The nation preferred the idea of the younger and confident man as president. She knew Obama was stronger than she, and decided that running against him was not preferable/would work out well.

  11. Rania Abbasi

    Hillary:

    1. How does Hillary alter her image after Bill loses re-election for the governor’s spot in Arkansas? Why does she do this?
After Bill loses, Hillary changes her last name from Rodham to Clinton (taking Bill’s last name), stops wearing her big glasses, dyes her hair brown, starts wearing makeup, and becomes a lot more political; getting involved in Bill’s campaign. She did this because firstly, she realized she had partly to do with his loss; and because many were skeptical of how she acted as the governor’s wife. She did not take on the usual role that many would. She totally transformed herself, doing anything she had to so that she and Bill would come out on top. Her new appearance also put her in the national spotlight, leading to decades in the public eye.

    2. How does Clinton handle her husband’s affair and impeachment? How would you have handled a similar event? Why?
When Gennifer Flowers stepped forth and accused Bill Clinton of having a 12 year affair with her, Hillary didn’t want to speak publicly about it. However, both her and Bill knew that she would have to address it at some point for them to stay on top. After the Superbowl, Hillary and Bill went on 60 minutes and gave an interview on it; where she said she would stay by her husband’s side no matter what because she loves and respects him. Honestly, she was probably furious, but she had to stay professional and not make it a personal matter—for them to win. This worked, and Bill made a comeback after the allegation. I probably would not be able to stay so professional. I can’t handle people cheating/being unfaithful. I would have broken off from him and continued to strengthen my own political career.

    3. How was Clinton ill-prepared to win the 2008 presidential election vs. Obama?
Clinton had underestimated how difficult it was to run against Obama, someone who brought a new outlook and change to the country. Some were just tired of the Clintons, and needed a refresher. Obama was a new, younger, cocky, smart man. The public also viewed Hillary as the “voice of caution” because she would tell Obama that things were not as easy as he thought them to be. America simply didn’t want her, and she realized that—so she began to endorse Obama in all that he did.

    Trump:

    1. How does Trump’s first flirtation with presidential politics in 1988 echo his current campaign?
Trump first got himself into politics when he began to make public statements about foreign countries and how they were affect the US (i.e. why are we paying for Japan, they should be paying themselves). This is when he began to formulate his views that he presently carries. He talked much about trade, which was a shadow to his campaign now (talking about trade deals like TPP, and how it’s bad). He even formulated his views on social issues. There was a rape scandal and a handful of minority (black) boys were charged with rape against a white woman. Trump said they should be treated terribly and we shouldn’t think highly of them at all. Then, when the real rapist came out and testified, Trump never took back or apologized for his statements. He didn’t want to admit he was wrong. To this day, he has the same mindset.

    2. How was Trump “too big to fail” in 1998?
Trump had become so successful in his casinos and towers, and was able to sell shares of the casino, the airline, and the boat to get himself out of debt. Soon, his name was known worldwide—TRUMP. He also had his own show, The Apprentice made him seem much more great and credible than he actually was (and is). Even after his divorce, people soon forgot about what they didn’t like about him and just remembered that they knew his name (as the video described). He could do anything, but wouldn’t fail, because everyone knew his name. He saved himself with all the things he had invested in—being too big to fail.

    3. Explain the motive behind Trump’s search for Obama’s birth certificate, according to the film.
Trump’s motive in finding Obama’s birth certificate was that he wanted to take him on, and take control of America’s discomfort with our first black president. He made claims like Obama not being born in the United States, and even being born in Kenya. Trump had seen Obama as the bad guy and wanted to take on “this guy”. After weeks of being a “birther”, Obama invited Trump to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner; where he blatantly made fun of him and shamed him in front of everyone. Trump saw this as another reason to take him on, and run for/win the presidency.

  12. Emma Marszalek

    Hillary Clinton

    3. When Bill Clinton loses the re-election for governor, Hillary changed her image. She knew that she was part of the reason why Bill lost because she wasn’t seen as governor’s wife. She had big glasses and didn’t follow society’s image for a women. Hillary knew that she needed a change to get anywhere in politics. Hillary started dressing nicer, dyed her hair, got rid of her glasses, and changed her last name. She changed her image not only for her, but for Bill too. Hillary had to go through bill to get anywhere in politics. She changed her image for Bill and herself too. She would be seen more professional.

    5. Hillary was the first lady to be in politics. She was in charge of the west wing and the health care plan. Hillary did everything in secrecy, and the people didn’t like that. The people wanted to know what she was doing, but Hillary never said anything. It was a failure, and was asked to not to be involved in the White house politics. The first ladies were seen as only to be in helping causes, and not in politics. She was seen as a weakness for Bill. Hillary always stuck by her husband, and always saved him. During Bill Clinton’s impeachment, Hillary was criticized for staying with Bill when he had an affair. Hillary was seen as a prop for Bill.

    11. Hillary got blind-sided by Obama. He was younger and just as smart. Hillary’s experience in the White house was her weakness not her strength. She still had her image from the past of being a failure and sticking by her husband. Obama was a new approach, and didn’t carry baggage like she did. Hillary didn’t have the support that she needed at the time.

    Donald Trump

    4. Trump’s presidential politics in 1988 echo his campaign in 2016. In 1988, he started to develop the same values he has today. He still believes that other countries have to defend themselves with the help of the Unites States. Trump started his campaign in 1988, and ended it in 2016. Trump lumps people together by race. It is seen in the central jogger case because Trump assumes the worst in the five African America boys. Today, it is seen through the way trump feels about Mexicans, Muslims, and other races. Trump liked the publicity and the attention.

    6. Trump put one billion dollars into the Taj Mahal. The country wasn’t in a good situation, and people weren’t investing their money in casinos. It had been predicted that the Taj Mahal would be a fail, and it was. People weren’t buying a lot. Trump had spent too much with his yacht, airline, casinos, and hotels. Everything was going down. None of his businesses were succeeding.Trump didn’t know how to resolve his problems, and it had seemed that he didn’t take economics or business in college. Trump’s team had decided that the buildings were going to do better with the Trump name on it. Trump didn’t sell any of his businesses. Everything in Trump’s life was seeming to go downhill.

    12. Trump was practicing the ideas of McCarthy and Roy Cohn when asking for the birth certificate of Obama. He was trying to bring a group of people together who were skeptical of Obama’s birth place. Trump wanted to get his name out there more, and discredit what Obama did. He wanted the attention of the public and to gain support from these people. This started Trump gaining supporters. Trump accusing Obama of not being born in the United States was a selfish act. Obama responded by releasing his birth certificate.

  13. Ian Birley

    Trump
    1. Donald John Trump grew up in New York City. Born to a wealthy real estate developer, Fred Trump. Fred, being a successful businessman, wished for his children to share the same success that he did himself. Thus, he was very harsh on his children. He taught them that there were two types of people in this world: killers, and losers. If you weren’t a killer, you were a loser. He thought life is a game and that is how it goes. Donald took this message to heart. He would try his hardest all the time in every aspect to be a “killer”. He became so unruly in his middle school years that his father put him in the harshest military camp he could find. Even there, Donald thrived. He enjoyed the order and clarity that came with military camp. Donald Trump would grow up to pursue success, a theme that had been with him his entire life.

    7. Trump was on a spending spree. He bought a yacht, and an airline. Most expensive of all was the Taj Mahal, a casino that Trump sunk $1 billion into. It was so expensive that it couldn’t turn a profit. All of his assets began losing money. In desperation, Trump turned to the banks to bail him out. The banks were faced with the decision. They decided that his name had become such a brand, that they were worth more in his possession, than they were foreclosed. They sold his yacht, and his airline, and put him on a $450,000 per month allowance, in exchange for Trump being able to continue his business promotion. Trump had survived financial defeat. He was too big to fail.

    12. Trump wished to further increase is public opinion, and create a platform on which he could possibly run for president in 2012. He found it in the birther issue. He attempted to hammer President Obama on the fact that he hasn’t presented his birth certificate. He took advantage of the ability to sensationalize one’s personal history. This all toppled down on him when the President released his birth certificate in 2012.

    Clinton
    1. Hillary Rodham was born in Chicago. Her father, Hugh, was a very conservative and demanding man. Hillary never got any credit for her achievements from her father. Furthermore, her parents fought often. Her mother, Dorothy, grew up in worse conditions. This made her determined to give Hillary a better life. At the Methodist church she attended, a new minister appeared. He, in contrast to her father, was a progressive. One Sunday, he took the group to downtown Chicago to see Martin Luther King Junior speak. His speech would resonate with Hillary for a long time. Hillary would grow up a rebel to her father. Which meant she would oppose conservatism.
    3. Hillary Rodham was no ordinary first lady, especially as the Governor of Arkansas’ wife. She in many ways took control of her husband’s position when speaking. She never changed her last name to that of her husband. She also dressed like a hippie, and was proud of it. The people of Arkansas are more traditional than what Bill and Hillary were looking for. When Clinton lost reelection for governor, Hillary was, in part, to blame. In order for the team to pursue further political aspirations, Rodham would have to drastically change. She changed her last name to Clinton. She changed the way she dressed. She stopped wearing glasses. If the Clintons were going anywhere, they had to play the game.

    8. There were (true) stories circulating in newspapers that President Bill Clinton had affairs with a former Whitehouse intern, Monica Lewinsky. Bill assured Hillary that there was no case here, and this didn’t happen. She supposedly him wholeheartedly. When questioned on the issue, she denied that there was any case against the president. When the truth came out that the President did have those affairs, she was furious. The family went on vacation while the press awaited her response. She supposedly forgives her husband, and begins helping him with his impeachment defense. When he was acquitted, she did not stand by his side as he addressed the nation. Instead she was plotting her very own political career. She became the first senator to also be a first lady. If I were her, and had the same political aspirations as her, I would have likely done something similar. Being the wife to an unfaithful husband is not a good name, so it would be a good thing to make a name for yourself, and that is just what she did.

  14. Kate Marszalek

    “The Choice”

    Questions on Trump:
    2) Donald Trump’s career is based off of outrageous statements that cause the public to turn an eye on him. He has continually said statements that are untrue over and over again so that people will believe him. Some may view it as a flaw in our society, others think it’s a great strategy to win the public. Trump had used “truthful hyperbole” and theory of repetition when he declared everything as a win. An example of this used in “The Choice” was when Trump had denied the failure of the Taj Mahal Casino. After spending billions on this Casino, Trump had a hard time swallowing the fact that the Casino was a failure. Not only did the Taj Mahal Casino fail, but Trump airlines had also taken a turn for the worst. Despite these troubles, Trump had never declared his failure. Trump’s repetition theory was proven when he accused President Obama of not being born in the United States. Contrary to this fact, Trump consistently insisted that Obama was not born in the United States. Trump had repeated this so often that some of the public had started to believe him. Trump had and has continually used his theories to get to the top of the business ladder as well as the political ladder.
    4) Trump’s graze with politics in 1988 is similar to the way his campaign was run today by his vague and power-hungry view. Like today, in 1988 politics appealed to Trump because he feeds off of attention. Trump knew that running for President would get people talking about him and that’s exactly what he wanted in 1988 while he was still creating a name for himself. But, today in his campaign, Trump draws attention by making broad and powerful statements on foreign policy. With support and critics, Trump during his campaign, had successfully drawn the public eye. Trump knew in 1988 that he was not ready to be President, but he had portrayed his feelings of more political power. Now that he feels ready to be President, Trump has continued to show his want for political power.
    12) Trump’s motive for the demand of President Obama’s birth certificate was that he saw that the issue could make headlines. After becoming a star from the Apprentice and learning about different lawsuits with McCarthy, Trump knew that you sensationalize someone’s personal life. So that’s what he did. By doing this and creating this uproar around Obama’s birth, Trump had rallied support in some Republicans. That had set the stage for Trump’s political campaign. Trump had become even more motivated to make his name in politics after being humiliated by Obama with the birth certificate.

    Questions on Clinton:
    3) Clinton changes her image in Arkansas after Bill loses the reelection for governor because the people of Arkansas did not like her. After receiving immense criticism from the people of Arkansas on her hair, glasses, and attitude, Clinton changed them all to support her husband. Clinton had gotten a classic housewife haircut instead of her hippy hair, got rid of her boxy glasses that had created her image, and quieted her political opinions. Clinton does this because she wanted Bill to win reelection for governor. Clinton knew that winning governor was the only way to increase their political agenda. Not only did she want to further their political career together, but Clinton didn’t want to hold Bill back. She didn’t want to be the reason why he didn’t win reelection.
    8) When Clinton was plagued by her husband’s affairs and impeachment, she held her head high while supporting her husband. With his first affair. Clinton did not blink with her support of her husband. She at first did not speak about the allegations but when Bill Clinton’s political career was in jeopardy, Clinton was forced to speak out. With his second affair, Clinton was a little more beat down than she was before. Clinton had fully supported her husband’s claims that the affair was not true. But she was blindsided when Bill had said the allegations were true. Though Clinton never left Bill, she was furious and rightfully so. During Bill’s impeachment, Clinton, again, supported her husband for the sake of his career. If I had to handle a similar event, I would like to believe that I would handle it like Clinton did. But instead I would find a way to break away from the hurtful relationship. I would support my relationship to the best of my ability but I would choose to do whatever would be beneficial to my mind and soul. I say this because I believe that happiness is key in life, and, for me, I would not put my happiness in jeopardy for my partner’s job.
    11) Clinton was ill-prepared for the 2008 election because of her and her husband’s struggle with his impeachment. Bill Clinton’s unfaithfulness had discouraged many Democratic supporters from the Clinton family. Clinton had a confidence that Obama had taken away when he ran. Clinton was completely blindsided when Obama ran for President. She had believed that it was her time in the spotlight and he proved her wrong. Obama was younger and just a sharp and resourceful as Clinton was, and she was not expecting that. Clinton was blown out of the race with Obama’s ability to fire up his support.

  15. Claire Hornburg

    Trump
    1. Growing up, Trump’s father was an extremely ambitious businessman, and that ambition spread to his son. In his household, it was taught that there were winners and losers in this world; there were killers, and those who got killed. If you wanted to succeed in the world, you had to be a killer. This part of his upbringing is shown in his extremely aggressive business and campaign strategies, and his extreme drive to succeed and absolute refusal to accept defeat. He was a big troublemaker when he was a child, and his misbehavior got him sent by his parents to military school, where there were extremely strict rules. Despite the strict discipline and harsh environment, Trump loved it. In military school, you had to be ambitious and aggressive; you had to be a killer. He thrived in this environment, and it only worked to increase his drive and ambition. Additionally, the school he went to was an all boys school, so the only experience with women he had was with Playboy Magazine. This dehumanized women for him, and taught him that women were objects, like some sort of prize to be won, rather than actual people. He carries this sentiment with him today, as evidenced by the tape that was released of all the comments he made about women on the bus. The room ‘barracks talk’ was used to describe the way they talked about women in the military school, which is very similar to the term ‘locker room talk’, which is the phrase he used to defend the comments he made on the tape.

    9. The ‘Trump brand’, in a sense, was first created after the completion of Trump Tower. This large business venture made his brand better known, and Trump quickly became a household name. After the success of Trump Tower, Donald Trump went on a gigantic spending spree, borrowing millions of dollars from banks to fund projects such as casinos, hotels, and even an airline. As time went on, his giant expenditures began to cost him. His biggest project, the Taj Mahal casino, completely backfired, and was struggling to stay in business, along with all his other projects. He was losing huge amounts of money, and it dawned on both him and the banks that were lending him money that the main reason he was pulling in any money at all was because of his name. He completely changed tactics, not taking on real estate projects anymore, but rather selling his name to put on things that he did not actually own, and receiving part of the profit. This marked a shift in Trump and his business that was epitomized by his TV show, The Apprentice. This show further sold his brand and his name, but also portrayed as a person with power, and a successful businessman. It made him a TV icon, and a reality political star. In many ways, this show paved the way for his presidential campaign.

    12. During Obama’s presidency, and election campaigns, there was a group of republicans, called the birthers, who expressed doubt about Obama being born in America. A combination of Trump’s celebrity status and loud support of these people put him at the head of the movement. Trump and the birther movement gave a voice to a group of people who were uncomfortable with the idea of a black president. It perfectly reflected the lessons Trump had learned from attorney Roy Cohn, which was to exploit and sensationalize personal history in an attempt to undermine someone. This brought Trump more fame and recognition, and launched him further into the world of politics
    Clinton
    1. Hillary Rodham described her upbringing as a traditional 1950s life and household, but the truth is much more complicated. Her father was extremely demanding, and gave Hillary no recognition for her achievements. Hillary’s mom, disgruntled with her life, and how her potential had been stifled by her marriage, pushed her ambition and hope for success onto her daughter. The pressure coming from her parents gave her an unmatched drive and ambition, and made her determined to succeed. However, the pressures from outside her family, such as her classmates, were telling her that she wouldn’t get far due to her being a woman, and the most she could hope for was to be the wife of a senator. These negative attitudes only fed into her ambition, and gave her the incentive to be a forward thinking, independent women with her own political career. In her household, there was a lot of tension, and her mom and dad were constantly fighting. She would hide in her room, finding solace in the privacy. This led to her privacy and secrecy in her political career later in life. When she was a child, there was a new youth pastor at her church who introduced her to progressive political ideas, and even took her and her friends to see a speech given by Martin Luther King Jr. This influenced her political ideals, and helps explain why she supported progressive ideas early in her political career.

    3. When Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas, Hillary was anything but the typical first lady. She didn’t take her husband’s last name, dressed in hippie fashion, and pursued her own career in law while Bill was in office. The people or Arkansas didn’t take kindly to this, and when Bill didn’t get reelected, she put most of the blame on herself. After the loss, she changed completely, dyeing and restyling her hair, changing her last name, and devoting herself entirely to Bill’s career. She worked behind the scenes, and was almost entirely responsible for the success of his comeback. They had a child, and she resigned herself to being the typical first lady. However, she did a lot of work in secret, knowing that if she worked out in the open, she would face ridicule. This motif would repeat itself multiple times throughout her political career.

    8. In the election of 2008, Hillary thought she would be a shoe-in for the democratic nomination, but she faced an unexpected competitor: Barack Obama. Obama was in many ways similar to the Clintons when they first ran in the 1990s; He was young, not yet part of the establishment, and wanted to bring change to the white house and to America. Clinton tried to bash Obama, calling him inexperienced and saying he didn’t know what he was getting into, but it didn’t work. She was now the face of the establishment she once opposed. She was unprepared to run against someone as young and charismatic as Obama.

  16. Megan Darby

    Trump
1.)How did Trump’s years, pre-college,shape who he was?
Trump’s father taught his kids that life was a competition, you were either a winner or a loser. There are superior and inferior people and two superior people will have superior offspring. This made Trump have an ambition and drive when he was younger and this resulted in his father putting him in an all bay’s military school. The only way he learned about women was through playboy magazine. His classmates adjusted what they knew after they left the school, but Trump never changed. He is the same as he was when he was a kid.
2.)What happened to Trump’s Taj Mahal? Why? How was this a sign of his future investment failures/successes?
Trump was building this massive casino that cost a lot of money and was meant to be extremely successful. Many people thought that the Taj was much too expensive to bring in any money. Trump attacked the company that made this statement. He would sue, unless a major public apology was made or the man who predicted this was fired. The man stuck his ground and he was fired. Later, the man was proven correct, and the Taj failed. It simply cost too much to bring in profit. He didn’t know how to invest or anything about economics, which lead to his failed business relying on only his image.
3.)Why was Trump too big to fall in 1998?
Trump had become the pinnacle of success because of how many places had his name on it. He was failing as a business man, but the public saw his name everywhere so he automatically was worth more. His name was worth enough for the banks to continue to support him and sell his name. The result is a bunch of building with his name that he had no affiliation with, which deceives the public to think he is successful.
    Rodhem
1.)How did Hillary’s years, pre-college, shape who she was?
Hillary’s father had very high expectations of Hillary and her mother had embedded an ambition inside her that she wished she had had. She always did her very best and strove for perfection. Her father was very conservative, but when she was little a youth minister introduced her to more progressive ideals. Her classmates thought that because she was a girl, she would only go as far as being the wife of a powerful man, but she proved that she could do that and still be powerful.
2.)How does Hillary alter her image after Bill loses the re-election for governor in Arkansas? Why does she do this?
During Bill’s term as governor, Hillary was seen as a bad wife because she was educated and she didn’t have the same southern lady look. She had big hair and glasses and wore flower-embroidered jeans. She didn’t have a child yet and she didn’t take Bill’s name. The main reason Bill lost the election was probably because she wasn’t a traditional southern wife. She blamed herself for his loss and took matters into her own hands. She dyed her hair and lost her glasses. She changed her style and took Bill’s last name. In the public, she became more dulled. Behind the scenes, she basically ran Bill’s campaign. She changed her image so that Bill could become governor again and later, he became president.
3.)How did Hillary change the way First Ladies are seen from 1993-2001? Include her health care plans and her husband’s impeachment.
Hillary was the First First Lady. She was the first to have a position in the west wing and the first, and only so far, to be a senator. She controlled the health care plans for the country and kept them under lock and key until she was finished with them. She had political power as a first lady and the country saw this as a bad thing. It was too progressive. She believed in Bill until the very last moment that she could, but at that time she was also deciding to be a senator. She never let her husband take away her ambition and that is why she is running for President now.

  17. Josh Myers

    Hillary:
    3. After Bill Loses the re-election for the governor spot, Hillary feels that he partly lost because of the way many of the American people viewed her. Hillary did not fit the view of the ideal wife in the south. Many people did not support the Clintons because of this. It was not traditional for a wife to act this way. Hillary started to dress differently, adopted Clinton as her last name, styled her hair differently, stopped wearing her glasses, and she started to become less vocal. She became the ideal image of a politician’s wife because she felt that it would benefit her husband’s career.
    11. Clinton was not prepared to go against Obama in the 2008 election. She was not prepared for a young politician like Obama. The public wanted someone young and intelligent to run the country. Hillary did not expect the popularity that Obama received. The American public thought that Hillary represented an older America, they wanted someone young like Obama. Later she pledged her support for Obama.
    1. Clinton’s life before college shaped who she is today. Hillary was born in Chicago, though she later moved. There was a lot of fighting in her house. Hillary’s father would never show any appreciation or hints that he was proud of Hillary. He had an idea that if she was getting As in school, then they were making school too easy. Her mother wanted to give Hillary a better life. The fighting that was going on in the Rodham household eventually led to Hillary’s privacy and secrecy. Many of the hardships that Hillary endured led to many of her personality traits today.

    Trump:
    12. Trump wanted to find Obama’s birth certificate because he believed that Obama was not born in the United States. There is a law stating that all presidents must be born in the United States. Trump was speaking in place of the racist people who refused to believe that an African American was president. He needed proof that Obama was indeed born in the United States. Obama released his birth certificate that showed he was born in Hawaii.
    4. Trump has many of the same ideas that he did when he first flirted with presidential politics in 1988. Many of his ideas and opinions have remained the same over the years. He has always been upset about other countries taking advantage of us through trade deals. We also see some similar actions made by Trump. We saw him lash out about the story if the boys raping and beating a white woman. He wanted them to all be sentenced to death. Even though the real criminal was found he did not apologize. Today we also see him refuse to admit that anything he has said or done is wrong. The story about the boys shows that he did the same thing back in 1988.
    2. Trump believes the statement that if you repeat something enough, then people will believe it. Trump used this belief many times throughout his campaign. Many of Trump’s ideas are crazy, and most likely will not benefit the United States. One example of this is his plan to build a wall along the border of Mexico, this idea is completely ridiculous, yet he is persistent and keeps repeating it. Trump has many other ideas that are along the same lines.

  18. David Boarman

    Trump
4.) Trump began his flirtation with politics in 1988, and ideas back then still resonate with his ideas today. Back then, he was first talking about the idea of a Trump presidency because his was frustrated at the ability of other countries to hurt American economies through trade deals. Today, he opposes NAFTA and the formation of the TPP, which is a form of trade with other countries. This example shows the linkage between his political ideals 28 years ago and now.
6.) Trump made the investment of 1 billion dollars in his Taj Mahal, and it completely flopped. The reason that this investment went horribly is for numerous reasons: he picked a time of recession to build it, the market was not there for the investment, people weren’t looking to waste money at a casino during a recession, etc. As a result of these losses and because Trump had never really “lost” in business before, he blamed others, but really he is to blame because all around it was a bad idea. This was a sign of all of Trump’s failures, similar to how the Trump Tower is a sign of all of his success.
12.) As the film explained, Trump’s motive behind searching for President Obama’s certificate is he was trying to place doubt into the minds of the American people and appealing to the racists as well. Even though Trump had no proof of anything, he appealed to the racists that were afraid of having an African American president. The root cause of this was the Trump wanted his political party (Republican) to win the election, so this was his attempt at a smear campaign.
    Clinton
3.) After Bill’s loss in the re-election for the governor, Hillary greatly changed her appearance. Beforehand she had had a bit of a flare to her that was no consistent with traditional governor wives, and so as a result of the loss she changed her appearance to one that was closer to that traditional governor’s wife look (no glasses, more formal, lost her maiden name, etc.) Hillary did this because she played a part in Bill’s loss as a result of her not being the “traditional” type of governor wife.
8.) Upon the uncovering of Bill’s affair, Hillary stood by Bill, believing that the allegations were false. Bill denied the allegations and overcame the attempted impeachment and Hillary whole heartily believed him… until Bill came out and admitted it was true. Understandably, Mrs. Clinton was probably very steamed, but she never publicly lashed out at Bill and stayed with him, eventually forgiving him and regaining trust. Hillary actions allowed Bill to serve two full terms as president, but in her position I don’t know if I would have done the same. As first lady, you have to have support the president and so I think that she full-filled her duty as such, but her husband still cheated on her, so I am torn on how I would have acted.
11.) Going into the 2008 election, Clinton was fairly confident in her ability to secure the democratic nomination. Unfortunately for her, there was a man named Barack Obama. What Hillary though her strength was (being a first lady and having experience in politics), turned out to be her greatest weakness against a young, vigorous Obama. The people were looking for a fresh face in politics, and that did not fit the bill for Ms. Clinton, so she really didn’t stand much of a chance and was ill-prepared.

  19. Lily Meinel

1.The Trump part: When Trump was a little kid his dad taught him that you could only be a winner. He would not accept losers. If you were a loser that was all you were. So from a very young age Trump wanted to be the best and to take the world by storm. Because of his obsession with winning he wanted to win everything. Which annoyed his father so he was shipped off to boarding school. He went to a military boarding school which made him more set on being the best. He would try so hard to be a ‘Killer’ just to prove that he would become someone special. He also lived a wealthy childhood that many people back then did not have. He wanted to always live like that. He took competition to a new level.
    4. Trump’s campaign for this year had very similar to the ideas that he stated in 1988. He believed than and still does believe that U.S is being ripped off by other countries. He says that these countries should start paying for themselves because they have money. Another big issues that he has discussed a lot this year and back than was trade. He believes that we have really bad trade agreements and we are losing money because of this. Also a lot of people wanted him to run and others did not. He also had the same treats as he did back then. A woman for raped in central park and Trump said that these 5 black boys should get the death penalty for it. Then the real rapist came out and said he raped that woman not those boys. He did not apologies for what he said about those boys. This can show why he says some of the racist comments he says today that he does not really think are racist.
    6. The Taj Mahal was Trump’s biggest mistake. It was so unbelievably big. It was worth over a billion dollars. Which just lead to him becoming bankrupt. No one had time to go to a casino and spend money. Also the economy was low so that was why people could not go there and just waste money. It was a really bad time foe Trump to make the casino. Because of how if it is it cost so much for the staffs pay role. It was just bleeding trump dry. Other investments that went really wrong was the airline and his yacht. He never used/ liked his yacht. And he did not understand what it would take to run an airline. But his investors did not want to sell all of his stuff because it had his name on it. Which would bring in more money just because it had his name on it.
1.The Clinton part: Clinton grew up in the outskirts of Chicago. She would work every hard in school, but her dad never thought she was good enough. He would say the school was too easy. Her mother wanted Clinton to live a better life than she did because her parents did not love her. Clinton’s parents fought a lot so she never really bought that many friends home. Her classmates in school would say that she would become a secretary’s wife because she was smart and powerful. But they said this also because they thought that a woman could never become secretary by themselves. Which would make she determined to become more than that.
    3. Hillary altered her image because she knew that her image was a part of why Bill did not get re-elected as govern. She did not fit the Arkansas’ image of what a governs wife should be. She wore flowered pants and had big glasses. She also did not take Bill’s last name. People did not like her look because it was showing that she was kind of taking control. Back then woman were just an accessory. But after Bill lost she knew she had to change. So she dyed her hair and changed her look (got rid of her glasses). And she announced that she was going to take Bill’s last name to “stop confusion”. She did this because that was the only way to get Bill back on top.
    8. She handles it very well. She is of course mad at Bill for the things he has done to her but she stands by him. She even talks about it on public television. And when Bill tells her that there is a rumor going around saying that he had an affair with a white house intern and tells her it is not true, she believes him. Until the day Bill comes out in public saying that he did have an affair. Hillary just took it and moved onward and upward. She also fought from him during his impeachment trials. She would always stay by him. I would have been pissed off if my husband did this. The first affair maybe I would move on. But numerous affairs and one with a girl that same age as our daughter I would have been done with him. I would have divorced him because he cannot stay faithful. He also would waste way all of the hard work we worked towards together. I give her many props for taking with him because Hillary did nothing but change so Bill could keep on moving up. And all Bill did was stab Hillary in the back numerous of times.

  20. Joshua Salter

    3. When Bill Clinton took the L in the re-election of the governor position of Arkansas; Hillary believes that she lost it for him, that she didn’t fit the stereotypical wife of a politic. So she made some changes to help her husbands political status. She changed her maiden name and became Hillary Clinton. She also lost weight, stopped wearing glasses and started to fit clothing trends of that time period. She also started studying politics which helped her in this past election. She said the worst thing she had to was change her last name but she knew it would help both of them down the road.
    4. In 1988, Trump had a little bit of a thing that started for politics; most of his views haven’t changed to this day. During this time period trump put down the U.S.’ in the way that they made deals, he claimed that their deal making skills were poor. He still talks about it till this day, and I feel like his slogan “Make America Great Again” has something to do with it because as a business man making a good deal is a maker or a breaker. He also talked about certain minorities as animals because they had raped women. Even though evidence showed that they didn’t and that group still haven’t gotten an apology till this day.
    8. Hillary tends to handle Bill’s affair pretty well. She is a very faithful women, she stays true to Bill unlike what he did to her. The only reason she talked about it on national TV was to put the talk to a rest and she thought it would probably help her win the election. I wouldn’t have been able to go on television and talk about it personally because usually I don’t like people to know about my personal business.
    5. Hillary changed the view on the first lady in my opinion. It made it look like the first lady spot had more power than it did when she was in control of the spot. This power started when she was appointed a health care task by none other than her own husband. She had a very long health plan that was heavily criticized. Not only for this but firing people that shouldn’t have in the government. She campaigned her health plan but it of course miserably filed as known. After this event she felt no matter what she called for it wouldn’t work because she was a woman and not many saw the first lady as a politic people saw her as a housewife because they had never seen anything different.
    2. Trump is very self centered and confident, when he sees the earth, he sees him on top of it. Trump feels he is meant for the spotlight. After the Trump tower he felt like he won the Superbowl; it boosted his already big ego a lot. Trump has beef with the upper class because because his ways of living were not accepted by them. Trump got what was he asked for because he was determined to achieve it. His entire career was about him at the top of the food chain and the two statements described how he took the world into his hands and treated his long up and down career.
    9. Donald Trump after failing as a real-estate tycoon, he noticed that his name Donald Trump meant something to people. People looked at him as a big time celebrity, so he could put his name on things and make a lot of money off of it. He starred in things such as commercials and ads, that gave him a name for himself. He also created the popular show The Apprentice, which gave him a name politically. He created his name to be something big and his name was his brand. In this show, it was big because Trump was attached to the show. This cemented his reputation because the show was huge and popular and put an exclamation point on his name.

  21. Grace Jung

    Hillary-

    1. Hillary pre-college years definitely effected how she held herself as she grew up in politics. When she was young she grew up with un-supportive parents. Her father told her that she wasn’t good enough even though she got all straight A’s and excelled in all her classes. He also physically and mentally abused her. Besides all those obstacles, she was ambitious and outspoken. She was destined to become a leader because of how everyone looked up to her and how she composed herself. In the movie they also explain how she grew up in a conservative republican community, and that her pastor took her to Martin Luther King Jr. speech. I think this affected her the most because of how eye opening it was for her. She saw the things that other minorities faced and saw how passionate Dr. King was about that topic. I think this was a pivotal moment for her and how she viewed her life and herself. I think this is what really led her to become a democrat.

    3. After Bill Clinton loses the re-election spot for the governor of Arkansas, Hillary Clinton changes her whole entire physical appearance. She no long wore glasses, she changed her hair, she lost weight, and she also changed her style to match the appearance of other governor’s wife. She changes herself because she realizes that most people didn’t vote for Bill because of her. Hillary wasn’t really an example of a governor’s wife, especially a Southerners. She was independent, kept her own job while he was governing and also kept her maiden name. She gave up all that so her husband could run again for president, but to me, she gave up her pride and dignity of being a strong independent married woman just to please the public and her husband.

8.Hillary Clinton handles Bill’s affair and impeachment professionally. She does not cry or make a big scene in front of the public and she also doesn’t split with Bill. Hillary doesn’t really confront the problem until later when she goes on the television show and talks about it with the host. But she has also had to go out and speak about her husband and his affairs before this as well. Back then she confronted the problem and said that she would stick by her husband and the accusations were false. This gained the popularity of the Clinton’s and he was able to rise up again, but this time he didn’t. Hillary said she was sure he did not cheat, and when asked the question if a man who did lie to the public and have an affair in office she said that they should be suspicious and that the public should probably impeach him. She answered truthfully and tried to keep it on the down low. But if I were to ever be put in a circumstance like that I would be very angry but not make a big deal about it like Hillary. But unlike Hillary, I would have divorced him faster than he could say impeached. I would have acted this way because he was the president and should have known better because he had already been through a similar experience. It also would have been very embarrassing for her to go through that again and to find out he lied to you and the public about it.

    Trump-

    1. When Trump was younger he was brought up in luxury. There was nothing he couldn’t have and his dad gave Trump his same driven attitude. Donald Trump wasn’t given warmth or compassion from his father which distanced their relationship. His father and Donald both agreed that life was a competition and that’s what pushed Donald to always be a winner. It said in the movie that Donald was the first person to throw cake at people and he was the kid who bullied others to show his dominance. He also thought that he was the most toughest person and that got him sent to a Military academy. In Military school he was a good athlete and because there was a medal and a prize for being the best and he sought to get them. This affected him the most because even today he has the same thinking that he is better than his peers. He still makes fun of people and when President Obama stood up against Trump and his allegations,Trump fought back. I think, after watching this movie, that Trump agreed to the Republican nomination to show Obama that he could do better.

    4. Trump first flirtation with politics in 1988 echo his current campaign because he acts the same way today. Roger Stone, one of Trump’s political advisors, says that he thinks that Trump was never really committed to politics and just enjoyed the attention and fame he got out of it. And even in his old speeches he talk about the same thing he does today, how foreign nations are ripping America’s economy apart. That they should pay for their own stuff because they are rich now. He also started saying rude and kinda racist stuff about a case that he was uninformed about. He wrongly accused these four black boys and publicly announced that they should start death sentences again, and that the law enforcement were too nice. But little did he know that they were wrongly accused and that they caught the man who rightfully did it. But, Donald Trump did not apologize about his wrong accusations, and he still does this stuff today. A semi recent example would be Obama’s birth certificate and when he said that Obama was a Muslim and that he wasn’t American. Even though Donald Trump got the proof that he needed he didn’t apologize about it and carried on.

    6. Donald Trump’s Taj Mahal was too big and the pay roll was enormous. The Taj Mahal was a dream that did not succeed, he jumped too high and missed. The casino was in terrible condition because the economy was in a deep recession and there wasn’t enough revenue coming into the casino. During this time, his other hotels and casinos started to slip away as well. This led him to burst out on people and create scenes that were unnecessary. He was caught off guard because his worst fear was becoming true, he was a loser. He didn’t have enough money, he was in debt to his knees, and he was bankrupt. There was no where for him to go. This showed that he wasn’t a good business man because he didn’t know his limits and when to stop buying. He was making enough money to get by with his spending spree but once he went all in, he lost it all. He didn’t know how to use and spend his money wisely and couldn’t figure out how to solve his own problems.

  22. Ny'dea Terrell

    Trump

1.) Growing up in a household of luxurious and comfortable home in Queens, New York, Donald Trump never struggled to obtain anything. Trump’s immediate family consisted of four siblings, his mother and parents Fred and Mary Ann Trump. His father was very strict and envisioned his children to do they could do. Fred Trump instilled the idea into young Donald Trump that you everything done is a competition, and the winner in the killer. Also that were superior human beings, meaning that superior men and women who beared children, would have superior offspring. In many ways he was hostile towards his kids, and Donald’s personality is very similar. But Donald had always caused mischievous, leading his father to send him off to the worst boarding school, a military boarding school. Despite being away from his family Trump showed know disappointment, in fact it shaped up some of his ambitions. Most boys at the academy looked at a lot of playboy magazines and used the daily lifestyles of Hugh Hefner Of the magazine as goals that they one day want to live like. All the boys realized that the lifestyle of girls and partying was a fantasy and the need for a career was present. But Donald always wanted to live that lifestyle, of making a name for himself and living life to the fullest. Furthering his aspirations after boarding school and working with his father in the family real estate business. This molded his paths to later expanding the markets to what Donald’s father did not try.

4.) Although no one ever believed that Trump was ever going to run for president 1988. Tump made clear that he felt if allies have money, then the government should not fund them. Almost implying that current president is not integrating enough strength as the face of the government. As Trump ran for president in the 21st century, he in all cases explains his frustration with trade amongst other countries. He feels as if not enough money is going towards providing money to illegal immigration deportation for example. You also see this come to light as Trump wants to apply taxes on goods made in China and Mexico. This is him trying to bring money back to America in his presidency in 2017, just wa he described in 1988.

7.) In 1988 Trump was said to be “too big to fail”, which was right after he saved himself from his failing Taj Mahal. In the middle of his down spiraling businesses, Trump learned that anything with his name on it could be sold. This what lead to the multiple buildings around the world that he did not own. To make a profit, Trump allowed others to put his name on the building, as long as he was given part of the profits. Consumers would go to the buildings or buy anything that had his name on it. Not only was he making a profit from other companies, but the banks did not want him to file for bankruptcy, so they gave him $450,000 a month. This came from the whole idea that bank did not want to lose the name Trump, which brought in a lot of their investment money.

    Clinton

1.) Hillary Clinton did not always grow up in the suburbs, her family moved their from the inner city of Chicago. Clinton’s family included her parents, Hugh and Dorothy Rodham, along with siblings Tony and Hugh. Her father was dismissive towards Clinton when discussing her school achievements. Her relationship with her mother was also estranged, because she also neglectful of Hillary’s emotions. Mrs. Rodham wanted the best future and nothing less, because for own life she felt suppressed and could express anything. Although nothing was quite connected amongst the family often disrupting in arguments. Nevertheless everyone always believed she was destined for greatness, her knowledge was so profound that even her classmates could see her future.

3.) After Bill Clinton won his first term as the governor in Arkansas, many began paying close attention to Hillary. She was not conventional was the complete opposite of a first lady. She physically was not conventional, wearing hippie clothing and large “bottle cap” glasses. She carried out her own job as a lawyer, didn’t take her husband’s name, and well educated. Many southerners disagreed with Hilary’s ideals as being a first lady, hindering and leading to her husband losing the re-election. She eventually remade herself, by changing her physical appearance and take her husband’s name. In her eyes she believed that if she ultimately confined to the ideals that people had laid out for southern politician families to be, this would put her husband back in office.

8.) Hillary dealt with Bill Clinton’s affair and impeachment with discrete emotion publically. In an interview on the Today show, she never gave any details, other than to say all allegations were false. Mrs. Clinton was proven wrong, by her husband, who lied to her about having an affair. Hillary stuck her neck out for her husband only to be made a mockery off, causing immeasurable tensions between the two. Although Hillary never made any other public statements, it has said she has made “guarded comments” about the anger and distrust she felt. I commend Hillary Clinton for reacting with dignity, because she has dealt with the scandals of two proven affairs that her husband. I believe that in her position I would not have acted with such grace, I would have taken back any comments of support, after everything calmed down. From my standpoint, if Bill did not see the mistakes of the first affair, then what would stop him from repeating this apparent chain reaction. In my opinion I find that any person who goes against the loyalty of a spouse, could easily go against their country. I would feel ashamed to have my name connected with theirs, because I would feel like I am going against all morals that I personally believe in. I would not publically abandon them during the situation, but after everything was sorted out, in this case after the impeachment.

  23. Jacob Kroll

    Trump

    4. Trumps flirtation with current politics echo his current campaign by having very close, to the same views then as to now. He believes that NATO is ripping us off, and wondering why the countries are not paying for themselves such as Japan. In accordance to the central park jogger case, Trump believes that the 5 young men who brutally attacked a woman deserves the strongest of consequences such as the death penalty. This is shown in his character now by having very extreme feelings over quite small issues.

    6. Trumps famous Taj Mahal themed casino was a billion-dollar casino that he built. It was told that once October-February struck it would fail due to market missing. Trump believed that criticizers were traders, so his immediate instinct was to tear them down. The Taj eventually was in debt and failed like predicted, during the winter. He believed he was right no matter what people said so his own ignorance caused his doom. This was a sign of his other investments success/failure because it shows his process in decision making. He always believed he was doing the right thing, but when his ideas failed he blamed his problems on other people. Examples of this were Trump tower (success) and the Trump Shuttle Airline.

    9. Eventually Trump’s job as a real-estate tycoon failed, but he realized that him and his name grew so large that he was considered a celebrity and was able to completely live off his own name. He starred in many commercials, and even created his own TV show called The Apprentice which would eventually make him a famous reality political star, which lead many people to learn how to become successful in the US (although he wasn’t very successful in many of the businesses himself. It really cemented the name Trump in Americas society to enter the political and business field in America.

    Hillary

    3. Due to Bill losing his re-election for governor’s spot in Arkansas, Hillary changed her overall look. She changed her hair, got rid of her glasses, and began to dress differently. She also began to wear lots of makeup, and fully committed to her husband by taking on his last name of Clinton. The reason for these large changes was for future campaigns to help her husband win with her ideal wife look, and high political education.

    5. Hillary is unlike first ladies due to how skilled she was in politics along with her husband. She was considered a political asset to the president’s agenda. She operated in total secrecy, with her health care plan. It was eventually revealed and ridiculed. She was extremely stressed and eventually turned back to campaigning a health care campaign which eventually also failed. America did not like the idea of women having more power than men. Hillarie’s loyalty to the president was truly put to the test when she stood by her husband throughout the impeachment. Hillary truly set an example that first ladies can do more and help than just be the president’s wife.

    8. Clinton handles the affair quite professionally. Although she was angry at Bill for being unfaithful, she had to calm herself and stick by his side. She did not like to speak out about the incident often but she decided to speak out about the issue only to help Bill’s candidacy. I would have not handled this incident well. I actually have no idea what I would do because Hilary put so much work into Bills candidacy and it’s being thrown away. Not only that, but people who cheat, after the amount of time they have spent together do not deserve to be together. Cheating, and lying are two of the most disrespectful things you can do, and I definitely do not like being disrespected.

  24. Aaron Stottlemyer

    Trump:

    1) Trump grew up with a very simple belief: Survival of the fittest. His dad would constantly tell him that life was a competition, and that you were either a winner (or as he would put it, a killer), or you were a looser. Trump took this to heart, and always strived to be the best out of his friends at school, his brothers, and everyone else. This pushed him to believe that he was better than everyone else, and was destined for greatness. However, Trump was a bit of a trouble maker. He would mess with his brothers very often, and would eventually get sent to a very strict military school by his father. This unexpectedly ended up good for Trump, as he thrived off of the idea that doing good at things got you rewarded. This made him a much more determined in getting what he wanted, and at the same time made doing so much easier.
    6) Trump, throughout most of his 20s, was very successful with his business career. He was used to running businesses, building buildings, and getting paid lots of money. However, he ended up flying too close to the sun when he bought the Taj Mahal Casino, and spent billions of dollars fixing it up, making it the biggest purchase of his lifetime. This was widely considered a bad move, as the timing of the purchase usually held very bad business. The speculations ended up being correct, and the Trump Taj Mahal ended up not being able to gain a profit, or recover from the massive spending. This was a big sign that Trump met the peak of his entrepreneur career, as many other business opportunities ended up going south, resulting him in 9 bankruptcies in total.
    9) Trump, realizing that he was facing the end of his career as the leader of a very large real-estate tycoon, felt that he needed to re-ignite his career. As he looked over his businesses, he realized that that they all had one thing in common: Trump. He realized that his name held more of an impact than the actual business, and felt as though they wouldn’t be nearly as successful without it. He felt as though the next step was to get him well known by everyone, and to do so, he created the show The Apprentice. This easily made him become a household name, getting himself on the cover on many famous magazines, even Time. Now, his name was worth a lot. He would sell his name to businesses, and then get paid without needing to do anything for the businesses themselves.

    Hilary:

    3) After Bill lost the Arkansas election for governor, Hilary soon realized that is was partially her fault. She was not what you’d call a governors wife, and definitely now a southerner. This greatly decreased Bills chances of succeeding in a political life, and Hilary knew that she needed to change. She got a new haircut, lost the glasses, and began dressing fairly adequately. The biggest change was accepting Bill’s last name as her own, as it truly made everyone realize that this wasn’t her true self. However, it did in fact restore Bill’s position, and he eventually got elected governor, and then President of the United States.
    5) Hilary was not what you would call a normal first lady. She took matters into her own hands, and would do things independently from her husband. She also had a job of her own, and was a fairly successful lawyer. In the office, Hilary was the first woman to have her own office in the west wing. Hilary made it so that she was a political asset to the Whitehouse, and to her husband. However, many white Americans didn’t like the idea of a woman being more powerful than her husband/the president, and ended up being very belittling oh her healthcare plan when it was announced. They didn’t necessarily hate her; they hated the idea of her. Later, when her husband was impeached, she was furious, but ended up putting it behind herself and forgiving him. She was actually the last person to accept Bill’s allegations, and did not appear by his side during his final speech.
    11) Clinton was very ill-prepared to win against Obama because he was pretty much everything she was and more; he was very charismatic like her husband, he knew what he was doing, but he was much more cocky, and unlike Hilary, who’s strong point was partially the fact that she was a woman, was greatly overlooked due to the fact that Obama was black. As the election went on, Hilary, in comparison to Obama, was a lot more cautious with her approach, and this ended up loosing her lots of votes. In the end, Hilary ended up supporting Obama, and helping him throughout his presidency.

  25. Gabe Abraam

    1. Donald Trump grew up in the suburbs in a place named Jamaica Estates, located in Queens, New York. Despite its location, the house was very large, with nine bedrooms and even having columns at the entrance, making it quite beautiful at the time. The Trump family even had a name for it, Tara. The house was designed by Fred Trump who was into real estate and was a very driven and motivated man. His father was keen on having Donald and his siblings even at a young age, come out with him to jobs sites and help Fred Trump at work. This included small tasks like picking up old nails. Donald’s father wasn’t a very warm person towards his family as much as he was to his occupation and also told Donald and his siblings many theories, including that life is composed of people categorized as either winners and losers. This drove Donald to not be known as a loser to his family and always succeed. Soon after Donald continued to be immature to his peers and parents during his early elementary years of childhood, his father had decided to send young Donald to the toughest boarding school he could find, the New York Military Academy, just a few miles away from the famous west point. He was the first and only of his family to be suddenly sent away from a lavish life off to a prestigious military school which was a huge change for him that he had to adjust to. Although being a rough as it is to many, Donald seemed to do well and even said he enjoyed his experience at the academy and liked the competition, responsibility, and all of the rewards that came along with preforming certain tasks. He was said to be a star athlete at the time and also was named the “Ladies Man” in the class’s yearbook. Many of his classmates and peers though, said that Donald hasn’t changed much since his time at the academy. This shapes who Donald Trump is today because he got the idea driven into his mindset that there are only two kinds of people on this planet; winner and losers, which drove him to out preform everyone and feed on success. His experience at the military academy changed him a bit from his early childhood because it showed him the tough sides of life and also taught him how to be more mature than he was. This could lead to his somewhat bossy personality and also not being as warm to others as his father did to him at a young age. Also his father’s role at the house always talking about his job, could be a big reason Trump got himself into the business world.
Hilary Clinton was growing up at the same time Trump was, but rather than queens, was commuting from Chicago, Illinois, to a suburb named Park Ridge. Hilary’s conservative father was always tough on her, even when she got straight A’s, he would say things like that the schools were “too easy”, and never got much credit for her efforts either. Her mother would also be verbally attacked by Hilary’s father even worse than herself, and would run away from her parents constant yelling. After Hilary’s mother Dorothy, lived a rough childhood with very young parents, she was influenced by that to raise Hilary better than her parents had with her. Despite having some respect for her intelligence in her early years, most couldn’t accept the fact that she was quite bright. Many people believed that not just her but any women would be able to hold that much mental power and there was even a prophecy that she would marry and US senator, which many couldn’t fathom a woman having so much achievement. Despite the suburb being conservative, a new youth group leader of hers names Don Jones, took her and her youth group classmates to down town Chicago and showed them more liberal ideas, which was quite controversial, and even took them to one of Dr. Martin Luther King’s speeches. After hearing about the issues of civil rights from Dr. King, Hilary was moved by his words. Her parents influenced who she is today because she is very pro accepting, due to her father neglect, and also taught her to be more silent and private with all of the family conflicts that occurred early on in her life. As well as Don Jones, who influenced her thoughts on many things in life, mainly equality at the time, by taking her to one of Dr. King’s speeches, shows today due to her support of human rights and social equality for Americans.
    2. Trumps belief in if you repeat something enough people will start to believe it describes his career because throughout Donald’s career as both a business man and a politician, he often states the same messages to others. For example, during his run in the election for president, he often referred to the same topics during political debates like rules on immigration and the countries debt we owe to China and eventually after repeating these ideas and turning them loose to the public, it really grew what his reputation was which to some was bad, but to those who did and do support him, that is what they believe is right after his constant repetition of his views being said to the public and rubbing off onto his supporters and the people who like him. Also, his “truthful hyperbole” describes his career because as it states, Trumps truthful hyperbole is believing that something is biggest, greatest, and most spectacular and this is shown in modern day still with the Trump tower and how he believes that the higher the apartment, the more expensive and exclusive it is. He also believes if something is bigger its better, which can also be shown by the Trump tower when he tricked the builder into building ten extra stories cost free.
    4. Trumps interactions with politics in 1988 echo his current campaign because he believes in the same sort of things that he did back when he was first introduced to politics . He stated many things along the lines of our countries imports from our allies and that we should be more independent and isolationist as a nation. He also got himself into many controversial topics and debates at an early time like he did back in 1988 with the jogger in central park which is similar to today’s cases with Muslims in the United States and immigration which he has very strong opinions for and when talking about them, he usually goes into great detail about how he sees the situations.
    5. Hillary changed the views of how first ladies were looked at because of both her healthcare plan she imposed and the affair Bill Clinton had with Monika Lewinski. Her healthcare plan gave her much more attention by the public than any other first lady ever had before and many people appreciated her more and really listened to what she voiced about political topics due to her experience in politics and her intelligence. The affair scandal Bill Clinton had really put Hilary in a position that had people really feel bad for her situation that she was in. Many thought of her as such a smart person and felt terrible that she was cheated on by her husband and even was lied to many times about past relations with other women that Bill dismissed as “limited friendships” when he was asked about them on the 60 minutes news program which aired after the super bowl, which pulled in almost 40 million people who saw what he claimed were just friends but turned out to be past affairs.
    8. Hilary handles her husband’s affair by keeping more to herself and showing less trust for Bill. This is shown when she is walking with Bill and her daughter, and instead of Bill and Hilary holding hands, they have their daughter in between them to separate them from holding hands. During Bills impeachment, Hilary acts in a way that she musters enough trust left in herself for Bill to help defend him in his trial and stand together as a couple and a team during the trial, which they had not done in a while since Bill admitted to his affair. I would have handled a similar event differently than Hilary did and not stand up for my partner if they had cheated. This is because if they had done something that serious and personal, I would not want to help them knowing that they had did something so serious with another person especially in a marriage of their own. There were also countless lies about his past which I would not be willing to forgive someone for if they were that close and together for so long.

  26. Lizzie Potocsky

    1) Trump and Clinton’s early years, pre-college, shaped who they are. Trump was a child in the 1940’s, growing up in a wealthy suburb in Queens, New York. His father, Fred Trump, was a real estate developer who raised his kids in luxury. Trump’s father was a very tough man who had his children learn his family business. Fred worked 7 days a week and took his kids to work with him all the time. He was very driven and Donald resembled his father with that drive. Donald’s father was not a warm person and was very passionate about business. Donald liked his father’s theory that genetically superior people together produce superior offspring. Fred also believed life was a competition and there were winners and losers. If you lost, it meant you were nothing and you did not matter. Donald was a handful and tough at a young age. At 13 years old, he went to a tough, strict boarding school. He thrived there. He liked that there was a medal and a prize for everything. He was also a ladies man. He has not really changed at all since 1964.

Hillary grew up in Chicago and was the daughter of Hugh and Dorothy Rodham. She lived in an all white suburb of Chicago. Her father was a conservative and demanding man. He never gave her credit for any of her hard work. For example, she made straight A’s on her report card and he said to her it must be an easy school. He was verbally abusive and dismissive. There was a lot of fighting in her home. She never invited friends to her house. This is when all of her secrecy and privacy began. Hillary had ambition early on and her friends thought she would marry a U.S. senator one day. She was further influenced to succeed after she went to hear Martin Luther King speak about segregation. That was the start of her futu)re success.

    2) The statement that “if you repeat something enough
people will start to believe it” describes Trump’s career. Truth does not mean much to Donald Trump. People want to believe something is the biggest, greatest and most spectacular. An example is when he built Trump Tower and said it had more floors than it actually did. He made it sound amazing. He absolutely thrived in the spotlight and he still does today.

    3) Hillary alters her image after Bill loses re-election for the governor’s spot in Arkansas because she understood that she was part of the reason for him losing. Therefore, she decided that she would take charge of his political comeback. She got very involved in his campaign and decided to rebrand herself. She did this by finally taking her husband’s last name and becoming Mrs. Clinton. She forfeited her own identity physically by getting rid of her glasses, dying her hair, dressing better, wearing makeup, losing weight and not speaking up. It was hard on her but she knew that they had to do what they had to do to win. By rebranding herself, she helped bring her husband to a comeback of a governorship. She, then, remained in the spotlight another 34 years.

    4) Trump’s first flirtation with presidential politics in 1988 echos his current campaign because he has basically the same views now as he did then. Although he was never serious about being the president, he loved the notoriety and the publicity gained after his New Hampshire Chamber of Commerce luncheon speech. A Draft Trump for President was formed. He felt it was great media. He wanted strength and extreme competence in our country. He wanted a simple and direct political message. He felt NATO was ripping us off and did not like our trade deals. He started formulating his views of today back in 1988.

    5) Hillary Clinton changed the way first ladies are seen from 1993-2001. It began when she chaired a task force on national health reform in the white house. She was considered a political asset. It surprised Washington when she operated her task force in total secrecy in developing a health care plan. She believed secrecy was necessary but it provoked a backlash against her and the Clinton white house. People were appalled by her operating in secret. Her health care plan was under fire. Her criticism became personal and there were reports of marital strife. Then, there were questions about their finances and real estate deals. Hillary then believed she was a victim and built resentments. She decided to leave Washington and sell health care plans to the American public. The reaction of the public outside Washington was anger towards her. The health care plan then died. When the Democrats lost the mid-year election, they blamed her. Hillary left the West Wing and transformed herself again. She stood by her husband and just acted as the role of the President’s wife. He was then re-elected in 1996.

    6) Trump’s Taj Mahal, a casino in Atlantic City, represents everything he did wrong. He spent more than a billion dollars on it. It went into debt and the casino was in serious trouble. They were in a deep recession and no one was going to Atlantic City. There were poor revenues at casinos. His Plaza Hotel and Trump shuttle were financial disasters as well. He looked like a loser and the down turn was a shock for him. Trump and his companies owed more than 3 billion dollars to banks. He blamed, fired and yelled at other people. Banks did not really want to deal with him.

    7) During his down turn, the banks thought that Trump’s assets were worth more with his name on them then in foreclosure. His brand was worth a lot. The banks sold his yacht and airline. They also gave him 450 thousand dollars a month allowance and he stayed on to promote the businesses. Bankers looked at him as a promoter and not as a CEO. In this respect, he was “too big to fail”.

    8) Hillary Clinton handled her husband’s affair and impeachment by avoiding speaking publicly about it. She, however, ended out defending and protecting his innocence in a TV interview. When Bill did admit to it finally, she did not speak about it. I’m sure she was hurt and embarrassed. They ended up going on a family vacation to heal the wounds. She is still with him to this day.
I would hope that I will never be in that same situation. I definitely would not handle it in the same way as Hillary. I would be very hurt and I would leave the relationship. I believe a spouse should be completely trustworthy and faithful in a relationship. If a spouse lies and breaks that trust, I would not stay in the relationship.

  27. Ashley Akaba

    Hillary Clinton
3.) After Bill lost the re-election for governor of Arkansas, partly due to her, Hillary changed her appearance drastically to make sure that she never affected him again. Arkansas had formulated a vision for the governer’s first lady and Hillary Clinton (Rodhem at the time) didn’t fit in the visions at all. She wasn’t an accessory to Bill as past first ladies were. Hillary kept her maiden name, had a hippie fashion style, and had her own career apart from being a first lady, which was being a lawyer, and wasn’t an Arkansas native. While Bill was governor some people truly didn’t like him, some specifically for his wife. So, after Bill lost the re election partly because of her, Hillary had a full transformation. She dyed her hair, changed her style, got rid of her big glasses and became more dedicated to her husband’s political career, to make sure that she wasn’t a part of any more failures.
8.) With the situation of Bill Clinton’s affairs with other women, Hillary stood by her husband and fought against the allegation. During the first accusation that came out during Bill’s candidacy for president, Hillary avoided speaking publicly about the affairs but physically was stood by her husband in public. However, this allegation was causing Bill’s candidacy to falter and his numbers of support from the American people to drop so Hillary knew she had to speak on the issue, in this interview she protected Bill and continued to only believe her husband. In the second allegation with Monica Lewinsky, Hillary continued to stand by her husband because he personally assured her that they were false and that she had nothing to worry about. In the media, she strongly defended Bill and stated again that she believed him even though the last affair had occurred. Soon, Hillary became Bill’s last defender. However, when he came out and said that the Monica Lewinsky affairs had happened he made the biggest fool of a brilliant woman to the entire nation. People could see that she was obviously very furious, but she ended up forgiving him. Today, she rarely speaks about the affairs and her true stance on the issue. If it were me, I would have dropped Bill the moment he said the 1st allegation was true. Cheating is a terrible thing and to me going around behind your wife back is so much worse than telling her out front I don’t like you anymore. That way people could make life easier and end it without so much hurt.
11.) Hillary was completely caught off guard by Barack Obama because she was ill-prepared. She wasn’t expecting such a young and intelligent candidate that had a certain “magic” that people would grow to love more and more. During the election Obama spoke on hope and changes that would benefit America, while Hillary seemed to take a more negative approach to the election. Also, people were ready for something new and fresh to bring America up from the dumps and Hillary, the epitome of experience from the white house, was not making the cut at all while young and cocky Obama fit perfectly. When Obama won the candidacy Hillary pledged her support to him and later became his secretary of state.
    Donald Trump
2.) Trump’s belief in the statements if you repeat something enough, people will start to believe it and the truthful hyperbole perfectly describe his entire career. Trump has been raised by his father who, while Trump was young, always had him in the top position to succeed and was a true believer in the fact that there are winners and losers in the world. He always had Trump listening and surrounded by successful people so Trump would follow in their footsteps. An example of this and Trump’s following of the truthful hyperbole is the construction of the Trump Tower. While the tower really has 58 floors, Donald Trump was able to say 68 floors for the simple fact that people would rather be on the 14th floor rather than the 6th floor when looking for and apartment because people want to believe that something is the absolute best when purchasing. The inflation of the floor numbers really shows Trumps perspective on the world because the truth doesn’t really mean much to him as long as it gets him on top and more successful, hence the phrase truthful hyperbole. Another example, to me, is his whole presidential campaign. The whole time his was making racist and sexist remarks and enough people heard it enough times to start believing in the foolishness that was spewing out of his mouth and support him.
4.) Trump’s first glance at politics in 1988 began to show his true form and root his ideas that have been shown in the election. In 1988 he outwardly expressed his views on how he felt that other countries were taking advantage of us and how he didn’t like how we had to do and pay for everyone else which he has also expressed during his campaign. Also in 1988, Donald felt that the Central park 5, a group of boys from race minorities who supposedly raped and killed a white woman, should be killed and that the death penalty should be brought back to New York for things like this. He was very aggressive and harsh when speakig about the 5 young children who were later proven not guilty when the real rapist came forth. Trump to this day has not apologized to the Central Park 5 for his remarks showing his unapologetic and vulgar nature.
7.) Trump was too big to fail in 1998 because he successfully sold his name as a high end franchise that creates extra popularity and money. Just as the name Calvin Klein makes a plain red t-shirt 50 dollars the name Trump was pulling in money as well, and the banks loved that. This helped him a lot in 1998 because by then all of his buildings were going bankrupt and making no profit whatsoever. The banks wanted to let everything crash and burn and let the building go bankrupt but then they realized that the buildings would make more money with his name on them than without so they let everything play out and try and get the building out of bankruptcy and put Trump on a budget of 450,000 dollars a month. Trump was so successful his name got him out of a bankrupt ditch which is the true definition of too big to fail.
